Why is wind management really important?
When I look around construction sites or tower cranes, I think that the wind is more important than the weather. Even if it is not raining, work may be halted due to strong winds, and the perceived temperature may drop significantly, affecting the safety of workers.
This time, while looking into field safety equipment, we looked at all the smart wind speed anemometers, anemometers, wind vanes, and wind speed vane integrated products developed by Ace Development Co., Ltd. and compared them based on actual installed sites.
As a company that has been accumulating IoT technology for over 10 years, I was quite impressed by the fact that it utilized wireless communication and weather data together, rather than just measuring instruments.
What kind of company is Ace Development Co., Ltd.?
Ace Development Co., Ltd. is a specialized company developing IoT solutions in the fields of construction safety and industrial weather since its establishment in 2016.
We are building our own technology line from PCB design to platform services, and are developing our own construction site safety management, environmental monitoring, and weather monitoring systems.
Especially
- 6 patents
- 4 KC certifications
- We also gained trust in the fact that we are a company specializing in on-site safety solutions as we have
- , a grade 1 performance certification from the Ministry of Environment, and
, a weather business registered with the Korea Meteorological Administration. What was it like using the
smart wind vane?
The first product we looked at was a smart wind speed wind vane.
At first, I thought it was a product that simply measures wind speed, but in fact, it is a product that measures wind speed and direction at the same time and supports IoT communication.
In particular, the biggest advantage was that real-time data could be checked immediately in the field, allowing managers to quickly identify risky situations.
The good thing about actually using it is that
- Wind speed and direction can be checked at the same time
- RS-485 communication support
- Interconnection with perceived temperature system
- Utilization of tower crane safety management
- Wireless-based monitoring possible
It was very convenient to be able to manage multiple pieces of equipment through one system rather than operating them separately at a construction site.
What was good about using the anemometer?
Anemometer is a device that intensively measures wind strength.
In the field, there are many cases where only wind speed must be accurately managed, and this is the most suitable in this case.
The measurement range is wide and the response speed is fast, so even situations where strong winds occur can be quickly confirmed.
Especially
- Measurement range 0.5~50m/s
- Initial wind speed 0.5m/s
- It supports 4~20mA output
- RS-232 communication
so it can be used stably in industrial sites.
I felt that this product would help determine when crane operations should be stopped due to strong winds.
How much use do weather vanes really have?
It is easy to think of a wind vane as a device that simply shows the wind direction, but in reality, it was more useful than expected in the field.
This is because dust scattering or work hazards may vary depending on the wind direction.
Especially
- 8-azimuth wind direction measurement
- RS-485 communication
- 0.It has specifications such as 5-second response speed,
- , can be used in industrial environments,
, etc., so changes in wind direction can be quickly confirmed.
I was able to personally feel that checking the wind direction as well as the wind speed alone was much more helpful in safety management. Why was the
wind speed and wind vane integrated product the most satisfactory?
Among the three products, the one with the highest level of satisfaction was the wind speed and wind vane integrated model.
Wind speed and direction can be measured simultaneously and installation can be completed at once, making management much easier. Looking at the actual installation site of
, maintenance was simple as most of the data could be checked with just one sensor.
main features are
- Measures wind speed 0~30m/s
- Measures wind direction 0~360 degrees
- RS-485 communication
- Power consumption less than 2W
- -30~80℃ available
supports up to 100% humidity environment.
It was a configuration that could be used reliably even at construction sites with heat waves and strong winds.
Why is it special that even the perceived temperature is managed? While looking at the
Ace Development products, the most differentiating feature was the perceived temperature linkage function.
It was very useful at construction sites in the summer because it could support heat wave management by calculating wind speed data and perceived temperature together.
I thought it could be helpful in managing my work schedule as it is a system that also comes with the Korea Meteorological Administration forecast.
What is your overall review after using it yourself?
After comparing all smart wind speed anemometers, anemometers, wind vanes, and wind speed vane integrated products, the purpose of each was clear.
If only wind speed was managed, an anemometer was suitable, and if direction management was important, a wind vane was good.
However, when considering new sites or comprehensive safety management, I felt that smart wind vane or wind vane integrated products were the most efficient.
I think the biggest advantage that sets it apart from general measuring instruments is that it can manage IoT-based monitoring, perceived temperature linkage, and Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts through one system.
