The day you received your
mock test report card, did you feel something was wrong?
I still vividly remember the day I received the results of my first mock exam as a freshman in high school.
I was managing my English well, but my score on the mock test came out much lower than I expected. At first, I thought, ‘I guess I couldn’t get used to it,’ but the second and third mock tests were similar.
When I looked again at the problem, I saw why. I memorized textbook passages over and over again, but I had never properly trained myself to quickly and structurally grasp long passages I had never seen before.
Now that I think about it, I should have bridged this gap starting in middle school, but no one told me about it back then.
What's the difference between my academic performance and the English test for the CSAT?
The English you passed and the English you took the CSAT may look similar on the surface, but the skills required are different.
is a test that checks detailed expressions and grammar after repeatedly studying passages from the textbook. On the other hand, for CSAT and mock tests, you must analyze the passages you see for the first time on your own and find the correct answer within a limited time.
In the end, there is one reason why students who did well on their grades fail in the mock exam. The power to analyze fingerprints on its own is not yet available.
This ability does not suddenly appear in high school. You need to develop an eye for reading structure starting from middle school so that it doesn't waver even when you go to high school.
How did you first learn about Crescen English School?
When my child was in his second year of middle school, his English grades began to fluctuate.
I was steadily memorizing vocabulary, but I kept getting deducted points from the passage application questions and descriptive questions. While looking for an academy, I came across Cressen English School, run by a small group of students near Hwajeong-dong.
What caught my eye was that the director, a graduate of the English Education Department at Seoul National University, personally taught classes and had over 20 years of teaching experience in Mok-dong and Daechi-dong. More than anything, the explanation that “this is not a class that teaches you the correct answer, but a class that teaches you how to find the correct answer” remained in my mind.
How was the teaching method different from a regular academy?
I remember what my child said when he came home after taking his first class.
“Mom, I only did one passage today, but I learned a lot.”
Crescen English School does not solve many passages. For each passage, the director explains the core sentences, linking words, topic sentences, and logical flow by color, and the students repeat the process of analyzing them together.
At first, I was a little worried because the progress seemed slow. However, after about two months, the child began to say things like “This passage is a contrast structure” and “This is where the topic changes.” At that time, I felt that this teaching method was right.
Is there a reason why middle school students need to prepare for the CSAT and mock tests in advance?
The director of Crescen English School said this during the consultation.
"Many people think that all they have to do is take good grades in middle school, but the reading comprehension and analysis skills needed for the English college entrance exam cannot be developed in a short period of time."
In fact, the CSAT English passages are long and contain a lot of abstract content. In order to handle 45 questions per text in 70 minutes, you must develop the habit of automatically reading the structure of the text.
If you only study for grades in middle school, you won't have time to develop this habit. This is why the results are different starting from the mock exam in March of the first year of high school.
Crescen English School's classes are designed in a way that prepares students for the final exam while simultaneously developing reading and analysis skills. It is structured so that you do not have to prepare separately for your academic records and college entrance exam.
Hwasu Middle School and Hwasu High School students, how will intensive management of grades be carried out?
As the exam period approaches, Cressen English School will switch to an intensive report management program.
The main passages in the textbook and supplementary textbooks are analyzed in detail, and practical training is provided with modified problems and descriptive prediction problems that reflect the tendency of each school to present exams. Because it consists of questions edited directly by the director, it is possible to prepare for your academic performance at a level that is different from commercial textbooks.
We pay special attention to descriptive questions. Since knowing the correct answer and writing it in a sentence are different skills, the process of writing in English and receiving corrections is repeated.
My child also had a problem in which he kept getting points deducted in the descriptive form, but thanks to him focusing on this part, he was able to receive significantly different results on the test.
Small elite class, what was actually good about it?
To be honest, at first, I thought the term “elite” was just a marketing phrase.
But when I actually sent the class, it was different. The director was able to accurately identify the weaknesses of each student. For students with insufficient vocabulary, the vocabulary was strengthened, and for students whose grammar was shaky, the grammar concepts were re-introduced.
At large academies, if you don't keep up with the progress, you often end up falling behind. Cressen English School's structure is to check until the student understands, so there is no need to ignore what you don't know.
That was the biggest difference.
Which student is Cressen English School suitable for?
Based on what I personally felt after sending it, it seems to be a good fit for these students.
If you are a student who wants to systematically prepare for Hwasu Middle School or Hwasu High School English exam, a student who repeatedly makes mistakes in essay writing and reading comprehension application questions, a student who is not suited to large academy classes, a student who wants to prepare for the CSAT starting in middle school, or a student who needs individual feedback, we recommend that you seek counseling.
This is a structure that allows students who lack confidence due to low English scores or students who are already in the top ranks but want to continue steadily until the CSAT so they can start at their own level.
How will the location and consultation proceed?
Crescen English School is located in Room 204, Life Shopping Center, 220 Hwajung-ro, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is close to Hwajeong Station and within walking distance of Hwasu Middle School and Hwasu High School.
Counseling is conducted by first checking the student's current English proficiency, study habits, and goals, and then providing individual study direction guidance.
If you have a child in middle school, we recommend checking it out before they go to high school. I wish I had known a little sooner.
English academic achievement and college entrance exam ultimately originate from the same roots. The key is whether you have the power to analyze fingerprints yourself. Cressen English School has been running classes to help students develop their skills since middle school. If you are considering an English academy in Hwajeong-dong, please consult to find out which direction is right for your child.
