A review of the hobby class at Art Box Art Academy, which I started while looking for an adult art academy in Sanbon.
The day passes so quickly when I come home from work. As my daily routine of going to work and home continued, stress started to build up, and I thought it would be nice to have at least one hobby to clear my head.
I tried exercising and learning about musical instruments, but I wasn't confident that I would stick with it for a long time. By chance, I found out about , an art box art studio in Sanbon, that runs adult hobby art classes, and . At first, my biggest worry was, 'Is it okay if I can't draw?', but after hearing that there was a free trial class, I decided to visit.
Is it okay for adults to go to art academy too?
When I received the consultation, I was told that there were more adults like me learning to draw for the first time than I thought.
It was a class where you slowly completed the work at your own pace, rather than following the correct answers like in the entrance art entrance exam, so there was little pressure.
Above all else, the atmosphere was more about the process of expressing yourself in a fun way than drawing well, so my nervous mind quickly eased.
It was impressive that the process was designed so that both those who are picking up a brush for the first time and those who are starting to paint again after a long break can naturally adapt.
How will the hobby class work?
Adult Hobby Class was able to determine the direction of the class according to individual interests.
Those who wanted to learn drawing could start with basic line practice and create works using materials of their choice, such as watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, or pen drawing.
What I liked more than anything was that each person's style was respected, rather than just following a set result.
I naturally became focused while drawing, and it became a time when I forgot about work.
Why was it more convenient because it was a small, elite class?
Art Box Art School is said to be run by a small group of up to 6 people.
Since there weren't too many people, I was able to ask questions right away, and the director looked at each person's work and gave detailed feedback.
When I learned how to draw by watching YouTube alone, I didn't know why I couldn't do it, but when you taught me even the smallest details, I felt my skills improving little by little.
It was a time for each person to focus on their work in a quiet atmosphere, so there was a great feeling of healing.
Do you feel like the director’s design experience is reflected in the class?
The most impressive part of the consultation was the director's background.
He majored in industrial design and has experience working as a designer for Hyundai Motor Company, so he not only taught us how to draw, but also explained how to observe and how to express it.
I felt that it was a good fit for an adult hobby class because it taught me that the thinking process is more important than the technique of completing art beautifully.
It was a time to learn how to draw because it was a natural way to develop creative thinking, but it felt like I was also using my brain.
A space as comfortable as a studio?
I also liked the atmosphere of the academy.
It was a good place to visit after work as it was a quiet space where you could focus on your work rather than a noisy or hectic atmosphere.
The adult class allowed me to use it like a personal studio, so I was able to complete my work slowly, and the best part was that I didn't have to rush.
Drawing time has suddenly become the time I look forward to the most during my day.
Would you recommend it to these people?
Those who always wanted to learn drawing but thought it was too late
Office workers looking for a hobby to relieve stress
Those who want to spend time making things with their hands instead of using digital devices
Those who felt limitations while learning to draw on their own
Create your own drawing in a quiet atmosphere Anyone who wants to create a piece of art would likely be highly satisfied.
A word of personal experience
At first, I started thinking, ‘I’m not good at drawing, will it be okay?’, but after taking a few classes, those worries quickly disappeared.
It was less burdensome because the class was about enjoying the process rather than the results, and I was most satisfied with the fact that it was taught in a small group, so you could learn step by step.
If you are looking for an adult hobby art or drawing class in Sanbon, I think it would be a good idea to try the free trial class at Art Box Art Academy first.
It was a space I would highly recommend to those who want to make time for themselves after work.
